Speak to Your Success!
Dear Warner Center Toastmasters: A round of applause to all! July has already brought several successes to our outstanding
club. Our members,
officers and meeting functionaries embraced the “when you show up
plan to speak up” philosophy. As
a result, every member
in attendance at our July 12 meeting had an opportunity to speak.
We started and ended on time — considering our jam-packed
meeting agenda, we were focused teamwork in action! Congratulations to Shelly Bright, who delivered her
ribbon-winning tenth speech at the meeting, and earned her Competent
Communicator On July 14, five Warner Center Toastmaster Officers
attended leadership training at Woodbury University. Thank you Cate Bramble, Beverly Rankel, Eleonor Arellano and
Glen Rankel for spending your Saturday developing leadership skills
that will benefit our members. We
were treated to a special presentation by Lance Miller, DTM, the 2006
World Champion of Public Speaking.
To say that we are fired up is an understatement!
We are dedicated to providing you, the members of WCTM, the
communication and leadership opportunities you desire. However, we are not all work and no play.
On July 21, Arnold Arch hosted our Annual Summer Potluck and
White Elephant Auction. The
setting was beautiful, the food fantastic, and the auction too much
fun to be described. In
fact, we have invoked the “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”
policy — although you might ask Arnold why he bought back the item
he brought (a crystal bowl with pink
flowers), or ask Chick Saffell why his wife Lynn bought (for a second
time) that clock in a palm tree. Thank you, Lois Coburn, as Auctioneer of the evening you
kept the party rolling in the aisles.
And a very special thank you to Carolyn Goldman for organizing
this hilarious event. Club awards for the 2006-2007 year were also announced at
the party. Our Founder,
Rose Lane, presented the following:
Bill
Anderson, Best Table Topic Speaker Susan
Mayberry, Best Evaluator Rookie
of the Year, Cate Bramble Improved
Speaker, Colin Giles Most
Humorous Speaker, Glen Rankel You have unlimited opportunities for success at Warner
Center Toastmasters. Are you taking advantage of all your
opportunities? Do you arrive early to network with other members and
greet guests — that is, to practice
your extemporaneous speaking skills? When you are a monitor, do you
prepare for your role so you can focus on effective delivery? If you are not on the program, do you review the theme of the
meeting and consider a possible response to a Table Topic?
Preparation will accelerate your growth.
Focus your attention on your goals, and prepare to succeed! Speak to Your Success – Susan Mayberry, ATMB, CL President, Club #2966

| Is
Toastmasters the opposite of watching television?
Is it the opposite
of listening to your ipod? Could be. Toastmasters is the organization
where you get up in front of a group of people and talk about what you
want to talk about. If this idea scares you, maybe that's the whole
point.
Toastmasters is dedicated to helping you overcome your fear of
public speaking, so why fumble around in the dark with your self-image? Think of
your Toastmasters club as a communications laboratory, a forum for
experimentation, a friendly place where it's OK to make mistakes -- in
short, a workshop to polish your personal
style. Warner Center Toastmasters has been enhancing careers and enriching interpersonal communications for our members for twenty-five years. Why leave great speaking skills to politicians and CEO's? You too can speak like a pro, and we'll show you how. It all comes together in a clearly defined and well-supported program of speeches and exercises that help you to sharpen your verbal skills, organize your words and gestures, and make you fast on your feet. Lose your fear of speaking in front of a large group, and you'll feel more confident speaking to anybody! The Warner Marriott is located at 21850 Oxnard Street
at the corner o We DO meet every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month without fail (except Xmas). Meeting begins at 630pm, gavel at 7pm. Meeting concludes approximately 9pm. Guest fee: five dollars. This site is updated twice a month with forthcoming meeting details, so check back often. For details, please contact:
