It’s rare that a
program of 5 speakers fulfill their
commitment to do all their speeches at a meeting, but at our March 24
gathering, 3 icebreakers and two advanced speakers did just that. First-time-at-bat Topicmaster Don West
challenged with some outstanding trial balloons about Easter holiday times, using questions that brought out the best in
our As for our program of 3 icebreakers, Jackie Goldberg towered over our audience of 37 (with the help of a raised platform), using her acting skills to entertain us with a fascinating life story. David Wurth turned a series of baseball analogies into a financial career – a story that was not without pain but highly memorable, in part because of the pain involved. And Maureen Farrell talked about adapting to change – something we can all relate to – and the daunting challenges of keeping up with life. Dan Marzec, CTM evoked the best laughs of the night with his advanced humorous speech, “Women are from Venus”, offering up salvos from the ever-raging battle of the sexes. For this advanced manual speech, the speaker is directed to use self-deprecating humor to make his point."When all is said and done, men still have the last word," said Marzec. "It's 'Yes, dear.'" Rose Lane, DTM returned to the lectern as our Toastmaster of the Evening, and Carolyn Goldman, probably the best VP of Membership we've ever had, moved easily into her role as General Evaluator. We'd like to invite one and all to our April 14 meeting at the Warner Center Marriott, where once again both novice and veteran members will rev it up with a souffle of ideas and techniques that will inspire you!

PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE Dear fellow
Toastmasters, I hope all of you have finished your taxes by now so
that you can be with us on the 14th. Once again, it looks like
we have a great program in place, so I hope all of you will be in
attendance. There was a fantastic turnout of Warner Center
Toastmasters to cheer on Arnold Arch and Dennis Rowe. Although we didn’t
win either competition, our turnout and spirit made WCTMs the winners! Looking forward to seeing all of you at our next
meeting. Speak up, speak out, speak often! |
