BROADBAND

![]() In an UnPresidented meeting this past June 28th, Warner Center Toastmasters changed it’s stripes with a new board and a new vision of growth for the coming year. Carolyn Goldman, CTM stepped down from her Presidential post after a hearty and highly distinguished one year stint for herself and our club. And now Susan Mayberry, ATM has stepped up to the plate to start swinging with her inimitable, hands-on leadership style as our new President. Carolyn confirmed what
we had long suspected -- WCTM is now the biggest, most active club in
all of On June 28, Bonnie Schuman tugged at our hearts with a nostalgic topic session through the foggy, romantic and sometimes turbulent memories of high school days passed. Glen Rankel captured best table topic by staying on the turbulent side -- of course it helps to be last in the lineup, because voters can’t help but remember you. But it also helps to have a wealth of valley history inside your head...from a magical time when the Valley had more dirt roads than boulevards. New VP of Education Cate
Bramble’s highly digestible and gutsy speech about the
“visceral brain” inside our bodies captured best speech as well as
our imaginations. Colin Giles fizzed his way through speech number 10
by talking about the origins of
Coca-Cola and it’s founder, pharmacist Tom Pemberton. Speaking of
corporations, Norm Dornfest explored the dimensions of stock
scandals in recent years, from Enron to Worldcom, and what might be
done to prevent future billions from bubbling into thin air. And Carol
Steffen put a lot of horsepower into a powerpoint presentation
which told how we might conserve energy and
keep so much gasoline from evaporating into the atmosphere. As General Evaluator John
Graves remarked, “It seems that Enron, the high cost of
gasoline, and coca-cola are causing indigestion in the lower
intestines.” Kudos to Rose Lane for
capturing Best Evaluator for her review of Carol Steffen’s
speech. Congratulations to Colin Giles for capturing your CC
award! We sincerely hope to see you
cooling off at our next meeting, when the theme will be
“Fortunes”, questions to be anted up by Rose Lane, DTM.
John Graves, CTM, will be officiating as Toastmaster.
Join us for the summer "White Elephant" auction and potluck, (members only) a unique experience where you stand in front of a raucous crowd and auction off your own "garage sale" items! This is a Toastmasters experience unlike any other! You cannot afford to miss this one! Food, swimming, and fun are guaranteed for all! RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED! Please call or e-mail Carolyn Goldman, or sign up at our next meeting. Now, say this phrase fast
five times in succession in a monotone: “And 55, 55, 55 do I hear
60, 60, 60, gimme 60, lemme hear 60 f You are now ready to auction off your stuff! C’mon down and have a great time and raise money for a good and noble cause -- Warner Center Toastmasters!

| Is
Toastmasters the opposite of watching television?
Is it the opposite
of listening to your ipod? Could be. Toastmasters is the organization
where you get up in front of a group of people and talk about what you
want to talk about. If this idea scares you, maybe that's the whole
point.
Toastmasters is dedicated to helping you overcome your fear of
public speaking, so why fumble around in the dark with your self-image? Think of
your Toastmasters club as a communications laboratory, a forum for
experimentation, a friendly place where it's OK to make mistakes -- in
short, a workshop to polish your personal
style. Warner Center Toastmasters has been enhancing careers and enriching interpersonal communications for our members for more than two decades. Why leave great speaking skills to politicians and CEO's? You too can speak like a pro, and we'll show you how. It all comes together in a clearly defined and well-supported program of speeches and exercises that help you to sharpen your verbal skills, organize your words and gestures, and make you fast on your feet. Lose your fear of speaking in front of a large group, and you'll feel more confident speaking to anybody! The Warner Marriott is located at 21850 Oxnard Street
at the corner o We DO meet every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month without fail (except Xmas). Meeting begins at 630pm, gavel at 7pm. Meeting concludes approximately 9pm. Guest fee: five dollars. This site is updated twice a month with forthcoming meeting details, so check back often. For details, please contact:
